Lily Taplin, PsyD
Resident in Clinical Psychology
She/her/hers
Dr. Taplin is a post-doctoral resident in Clinical Psychology, working toward licensure. She earned her master’s degree in 2022 and doctorate in 2025 from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System, where she supported veterans navigating PTSD and other trauma-related concerns, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, oncology-related issues, disordered eating, and body image concerns.
Before internship, she worked in several community-based mental health clinics, providing care to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Across these settings, she provided treatment for PTSD, anxiety and panic, depression, ADHD, OCD, and substance misuse.
Dr. Taplin specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, with a clinical focus on trauma, disordered eating, body image, emotion regulation, and communication skills. She is passionate about helping clients build a more compassionate relationship with themselves and move toward greater connection, agency, and self-trust.
Outside of the therapy space, Dr. Taplin enjoys trivia nights with friends, relaxing with her cat, and reading outside by the pool. She also loves exploring new locations across Virginia and discovering hidden gems within the city of Richmond.
Dr. Taplin’s Approach to Therapy
Dr. Taplin’s approach is grounded in warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. She draws from evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), intuitive eating principles, feminist theory, and liberation psychology. She believes that therapy should honor the full context of each person’s lived experience – taking into account systems of oppression, cultural values, and intersecting identities.
In her work, Dr. Taplin partners with clients to identify and clarify their goals, explore patterns with compassion, and build meaningful tools for change. Her style is affirming and down-to-earth, rooted in the belief that healing occurs when people feel seen, respected, and empowered.
