Gender-Affirming Care

Gender-Affirming Care

At Transformations Counseling, we believe that gender-affirming care is an essential part of mental health and overall well-being. Everyone deserves access to respectful, affirming support as they move through their unique journey of identity and transition.

Psychological Evaluations for Gender-Affirming Services

We provide psychological evaluations for individuals seeking gender-affirming medical care such as hormone therapy, surgeries, or other transition-related treatments. Our evaluations are collaborative and affirming—not gatekeeping, using an informed consent model. The process is designed to:

  • Honor your lived experience and self-knowledge.

  • Provide space to talk about your goals, needs, and hopes.

  • Meet medical providers’ requirements in a supportive, respectful way.

Evaluations typically involve one session, during which aim to understand your history, current supports, and future goals. At the end of the process, we provide a clear and comprehensive letter of support for your medical provider.

While we work to facilitate life-saving gender-affirming care for all of our clients, we cannot ethically guarantee a referral letter before completing a full evaluation. This ensures that our documentation is accurate, thorough, and aligned with professional standards of care and ethics.

Letters of Support for Gender-Affirming Care

We write letters for gender-affirming medical services, including:

  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

  • Gender-affirming surgeries (top surgery, bottom surgery, facial surgery, etc.)

  • Other gender-affirming procedures requiring provider documentation

Our letters are written in alignment with current standards of care (such as WPATH guidelines) and tailored to your specific needs. We aim to reduce barriers to accessing care and to ensure your medical team has the documentation they need to move forward.

Our Approach

Our role is to support—not to stand in the way. We approach every evaluation and letter-writing process with respect, affirmation, and a commitment to your autonomy. Your identity is valid, your experience matters, and your goals for your body and life deserve to be honored.
